I got asked the other day what my distinct photography style is. Hoo boy, lemme tell ya.
There you have it. Sea animals, glitter, neon colors, slightly blurry, stars in your eyes, etc.
While I was taking these photos (on the living room floor of my friend's apartment,) our other friends asked me, "How do you come up with this?"
I wish I had something deep and inspiring to talk about, but actually there was a squid on sale for $2.50 at the grocery store and I immediately thought, 'Ah great! Now I can finally have something to use my glitter on.' I love blue and purple glitter on anything, and anyone that's ever gone to a seafood market with me knows I have a Thing for squids.
My roommates reacted with a range of emotions from vaguely supportive to completely freaked out, but I sat down in the middle of the living room and started cheerfully sprinkling glitter all over my new friend. Eventually, I got my friends to agree to help me hold my lighting equipment, and they got excited at how weird what we were doing was.
We started doing vogue style pictures where I posed in my pajamas with the squid on my face. Eventually, we ran out of poses and I wrapped the squid back up in his packaging and hid him in the fridge for my roommates to find later.
The pictures turned out way better than I expected, especially since my planning process consisted of nothing past "squid + glitter = photo." Anyway, check out the rest of the photos below and try not to think about what slimy glitter feels like when it's stuck to your face.
